I have had debts cancelled, and yet Turbo Tax just says I have to pay taxes, and I have not had opportunity to file insolvency, or Form 982. Won't even come up. I'm sorry for your dilemma.
You can file the form 982 in the desktop version of TurboTax. That may allow you to have your cancelled debt treated as not taxable.
To find the form 982 in TurboTax, you need to go to the "Forms" mode (you'll see an icon for that on the menu bar), then search for the form by typing in "982" in the forms search box. Once you have the form 982 up on your screen, you will see an option for a "Cancellation of Debt" worksheet that you need to complete.
