Received 1099-INT from IRS but I am non resident

Hi

I received a 1099-INT from IRS last year as they took a long time to process my refund and therefore added interest. I received a letter from them stating that it was 1099-INT and that I might have to report it on my tax return this year. I am a Non Resident and I am filing 1040NR. I was informed that I don't need to pay any tax on interest received from US government institutions, but I just need to report that I received it. Is this correct?

Thanks

It depends.

If you received a 1099-INT form and you have a filing requirement, then you would need to report your interest income on your tax return.

TurboTax does not have the option to prepare nonresident returns.  However, Sprintax can be used to prepare your return.  Use the link below for additional assistance.

Hey JotikaT2,

Thank you for the follow up. I checked sprintax and created an account there. But there's no sprintax specific forum like this. Can I use this place to ask questions related to sprinttax?

Thanks again for your help.
