Received 1099-INT after filing

After I filed my 2016 taxes, I received a 1099-INT form from the IRS for a very small sum (less than $25). Is it advisable to amend my return for such a small sum? I've heard that amending one's return tends to increase the chances of getting audited.

I would not amend for such a small amount. When IRS matches the 1099s to your return they may send you a bill for the additional amount of tax on the $25. Just pay it.

I think you indicated a ($12) 1099 that you didn't post to your tax return.

If that is correct, I do not suggest you prepare an amended return for $12.

While you must make every effort to include all income in your tax return, $12 is unlikely to result in any substantial change to your total tax.

Thank you.  i'll hold on to the document just in case i get a bill..  My initial thought was that they wouldnt bother with such a small amount, but it's nice to see what others have done.  Next year, I will definitely wait until mid february --- like i usually do.  I don't know why i got in a hurry this year...and...it bit me.
