ready to try something else at this point

I needed to check last year's income. Turbotax forced me to reauthenticate, then it started crashing. I see the splash screen briefly and then nothing. Older versions want me to find my authentication code.

I've got 8 tabs open from the web site leading me on a wild goose chase just to FIND support, let alone ask an actual question. That took me around a whole other loop. I've been working nearly an hour just to be able to post this.

This is an ongoing problem. I buy Turbotax, usually from Amazon, and download it. It refuses to install. Then I have to find someone at Turbotax to tell me where the secret version that actually works can be downloaded.

I need them all to work all the time. Currently, none of them work any of the time. If I have to refer to previous years to find information, I have to wade through a lengthy stack of pdfs that I saved

I'm just about done with this. I've stuck with Turbotax because it is a hassle to change. But now it is an even bigger hassle to stay. There is no advantage to continuing to use Turbotax anymore.

Right now, all I want is for previous years to actually open. Next year, I'll try something different.

@pjcamp   Not sure we have an answer for that one.

IF on a Windows computer, make sure you check your recent OS updates, because partially-installed Windows updates are known to block proper operation of the Desktop software, and full b re-boot is necessary...and I've had two entirely different Windows OS updates in the past week on two Windows computers.....one this morning.

As it happens, I rebooted for an update immediately before trying to start Turbotax.

This software is flaky as hell.

@pjcamp

Most of us who historically use TTX desktop software, have no issues with older versions.

Of course, that's talking about already-installed software from prior years that was never uninstalled.

Yeah, if on a new computer, there could be issues...usually not though, or perhaps you are storing your files on a cloud drive now and you haven't logged into that cloud drive....or you have a virus checker that is overly active.......also, you can't do a re-install of 2020 or 2019 anymore .  2018 and earlier are a "maybe" situation (no installation codes needed), but would only be useful IF you had an installation file for the software that was released at some date on-or-after the date you e-filed AND there is no state file in your taxes (you can't open an old file without the state already installed....if you filed a state)

What is the TurboTax phone number?
