Re: E-file error IND-517-01

Given the IRS rejected my e-file attempt.  I could file for extension as they did not accept my filing, nor did my credit card get charged for e-file charges (as least not yet).   So why can't I file for an extension if the IRS rejected by tax filing?

That said I  will file my taxes via postal given I owe taxes and will just have to deal with the aftermath

of IRS letters about the mess they created.   The issue will work it's way out but sadly will take +16 weeks.

It's just a sad system when a government employee makes a mistake and causes you a problem with the IRS

that you have to clean up else suffer IRS consequences . They take no ownership for their own mistakes not to mention using an antiquated system where they cant look back at my son's original tax filing submission and

say; " No worries Mr tax payer,  we see our error.  You son did file as a dependent.  We will fix the issue".

Oh sure you can file for an extension.  I just thought since you don't need to wait to mail you would be mailing on time.  And an extension is only to file the return.  Any tax due is still due on the first due date.
