Question regarding filing a late tax return through the mail

For my 2021 tax year, I had to print out and file through snail mail because I got married to a Non-Resident Alien while living abroad and couldn’t e-file because of it. I had to mail these taxes in from overseas. Later, I learned that those tax forms never made it to the IRS, per my tracking number on that package.

My question is this, because I’m due back money on that return, is there anything extra needed (such as extra paperwork, etc.) that I should include with those late taxes, or basically just resend it as it was? There’s no penalty for filing late since I’m due back money, correct?

To further the context, I have a Sole Proprietorship and am self-employed, I don’t know if that changes anything but just thought I should add it.

Thank you for any help you can offer,
Aaron

No, you do not have to do anything additional if you are re-mailing your tax return.  You can prepare and file your 2022 tax return with any information that needs to be transferred (if any, like depreciation on your Schedule C or any carryovers).
