Problem with filing Virginia taxes Feb 19, 2019

I am trying to file Virginia state taxes. Turbotax is not allowing deductions to Virginia income such as 529 contributions. It   skips straight from income to taxes/credits?

Please advise.

The 529 contribution is considered a deduction from your income.  There is no section labelled "Deductions" -- it is handled on the screen Here's the income that Virginia handles differently.

To enter your 529 contribution, please follow these steps:

  1. Go back in to your VA return  and go to the screen, Here's the income that Virginia handles differently.
  2. In the Education section click on the Start/Revisit box next to Virginia College Savings Prepaid Tuition (Section 529) Plan.
  3. When you are finished entering the first contribution, you will be brought to Your College 529 Plan Payments and Contributions Summary.
  4. To enter a payment to another account, click Add Another Account.  You can also Edit or Delete previous entries.
  5. Continue with your entries to 529 accounts.  Click Done when finished.
  6. You will be returned to the screen, Here's the income that Virginia handles differently to enter other deductions.
