Problem with a spouse who does not live in the U.S.

I got married in another country in 2024. My spouse does not live in the U.S. and hasn't even applied for a visa. I mark 'Married,' fill in my spouse's name and date of birth, but then it asks for an SSN. I leave it blank, but I can't continue. What should I do?

If you are filing as Married Filing Separately, you can leave the SSN for your spouse blank and continue with the tax return.  When asked to Check this entry for the SSN, click on Continue.  On the screen Run SmartCheck Again, click on Done
