Please tell me why I shouldn't be pissed with Intuit?

In November I bought TT Premier 2023 version to help me estimate my taxes for this year. I get to the capital gains section and it said it wouldn't be ready until 12/21. I wasn't happy, but at least I'd have a week or so before year end, right? Wrong. Today (12/21) I update the software and now it tells me that the capital gains it won't be ready until 1/4/2024. Well guys, that just too f'ing late! Why couldn't you just give us the 2023 logic with the 2024 tax brackets and say that it was preliminary? But instead you said nothing. I feel swindled.

The IRS just released Schedule D for 2023 today (Dec. 21). They still have not released the Schedule D instructions or Form 8949 and its instructions for 2023. Those forms are needed to report capital gains. When the forms aren't available from the IRS, there's not much that TurboTax can do.

If you are using the CD/Download TurboTax software you can enter investment sales in forms mode (with the understanding, of course, that the forms aren't final).

What TurboTax could do is make it clear that it's not a finished product until it is finished. Why do you think people buy Premier in November for the following year? It's not like we're expecting a shortage of software downloads. Some of us have non-refundable credits that need to be maximized by selling assets and minimized so as not to incur taxation... and done in the current tax year. We don't need software just to directly complete Schedule D.
