Are you using Turbo Tax Full Service? If so, please follow the instructions here to connect with your expert.

If you are not using full service, please let us know if you are using online or desktop.

You should be able to click on FILE in the upper left and select SAVE AS. That will display the default name that Turbo Tax has selected. You can click into the filename box and change the name. Just be careful not to use any special characters that are objectionable to the system. A slash "/" is one of those that will not be accepted. If you get a rejection, look for special characters and delete or replace them with a safe character, maybe a dash. Good Luck!

It's always a good idea to make a backup copy of your tax data file, in case you lose the original or it gets corrupted. Here's how:

  1. In TurboTax, open the tax return you wish to back up.
  2. From the File menu in the upper-left corner of TurboTax, choose Save As (Windows) or Save (Mac).
  3. Browse to where you want to save your backup.
  4. In the File name field, enter a name that will distinguish it from the original (for example, incorporate "Backup" or "Copy" in the file name).
  5. Click Save and then close TurboTax.
  6. Now reopen TurboTax and open the backup you just made. It should open without incident; if you get an error or it won't open, delete it and repeat these steps to make a new backup.
  7. Finally, whenever you make changes to the original, repeat these steps to ensure that both files are synchronized.
