Personal Info Summary not made for having moved abroad

I moved from California permanently to France on 1 July 2021. Personal Info Summary in TurboTax Deluxe does not cater to a foreign 'State of Residence', nor accept a non-US phone number.

Supposedly TurboTax caters to US tax payors living abroad, but already fails to do so on the first page, i.e. the Personal Info Summary.

When you were asked in My Info where you lived in 2021 did you enter a state that you lived in?   Then next when it asked you if you lived in any other state/location in 2021 did you scroll down to the bottom of the list to choose that you lived in a foreign country?

Yes it does. If you don't have a U.S. phone number, leave it blank. Select "Foreign Address" from the top pull-down menu, and the country from the bottom one.

Yes, the part for the Mailing Address works as you describe. BUT, before  that, where you enter your name, SocSec #, Date of Birth, Marital Status and then State of Residence, it does not allow for a non-US location and now shows for me : "Resident state needed". This is just before you enter "Previous State of Residence: and I could enter California there.

The mailing address entry is ok, but what really matters is where  one resides now - regardless of the mailing address.

Yes ... little words like  "or" can trip you up.   I find reading things out loud to myself will slow me down so I actually read the little connecting words.  This is a #1 test taking rule I was taught years ago.
