Parent or Dependent 1098-T

My daughter's 1098-T shows $2180 in Box 1 and $8805 in Box 5. I just learned after submitting my tax return that I am supposed to add her 1098-T to my return, so I am doing an amendment. I am in the process of that and TurboTax told me that she needs to include the scholarship money as income on HER return. I am doing her taxes as well. So am I supposed to enter her 1098-T on my return AND her return? When I entered the numbers on my amended return, it did not change the final numbers of my return at all. Very confused. Thank you for any help.

When using TurboTax, the parents can enter Form 1098-T into their TurboTax program so that the parent's TurboTax program can determine if there is an education credit since the parents claiming the student would get that credit.

If, however, there is no credit, Form 1098-T needn't be entered in the parent's TurboTax program.

Box 1 shows 2,180 in tuition expenses.

Box 5 shows 8,805 in scholarships, so if the student claims 6,625 (8,805 - 2,180 = 6,625) there is no credit.

If the claims ALL the scholarship, the parents would have 2,180 (plus expenses for books and supplies) to use for a credit.

The IRS gives some great examples of how the credit works, you might benefit by looking it over.
