on my w2 form box 13 says statutory employee, but my job is nothing like that. can i assume its a mistake and leave box 13 unchecked?

I am definitely not a statutory employee so not sure why it says that. contacting my employer to ask about it would be very complicated and time consuming and I don't even know who to ask. Does anyone know what I should do? (check it and check statutory employee or leave it blank)

You can check the box on the W-2 and then on the screen that says Tell us more about your statutory employment, choose None of these apply.
