OK so I e filed my federal - and 2 state taxes since I reside in each NYS and PA partial year. NY rejected my return, but PA and Fed accepted. what now ?

so do I have to refile everything ?

Because you resided in 2 different states, is not uncommon for one of the state returns to be rejected. One of the most common errors made by New York taxpayers is the filing of a wrong tax form.  Below is the most common rejection code associated with this error.

  • R0159: The state of New York rejected the return because according to New York State, you are a resident of New York State for the filing tax year.  Re-file resident tax return IT-201.

I figured as much. Now do I have to refile everything or will my fed return be ok ? I tried to refile NY and it won't let me do it yet. I am assuming I need to wait until February?
