This EE savings bond interest shouldn't be taxable on your New York State Tax Return.

Make sure that it was properly entered on line 3 and not line 1 of Form 1099-INT, when entering your form into TurboTax.

You can use these instructions to get back to that entry:

  • Click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTaxiit is in the upper right corner)
  • Type in “1099-INT  and
  • Click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • You will see “Jump to 1099-INT
  • Click on “Jump to 1099-INT link
  • Edit your entry to review where the savings bond interest was reported, if needed.

It will look like this:

Check over your whole NY return.  Maybe by subtracting it out of NY and decreasing your income you aren't getting as much credit for something?  Try deleting that 1099 and check NY.  Then add it in and see what all changed.
