no rejection code, nor explanation

My federal tax return was rejected immediately by IRS. Intuit said the proper forms for energy credit would not be available until March17 and to refile.  I am trying to file an amended return and not claim any energy credit. Now the Intuit computed return says i owe $1000 when i file, even though the IRS never gave me that refund, they rejected my return! Do I need to send the IRS $1000 and "trust" they will be sending it back to me? Doesn't make sense. Thanks for any help.

If your return has not been accepted by the IRS, do not attempt to file an amended return.  Amended returns are to correct or change something on a return that has already been accepted and fully processed by the IRS.

Instead, delete the energy credit from your return and file it again.

Then, you can file an amended return later to add the energy credit back to your return to receive the additional refund that the credit will provide.
