New job in a different state, travel back and forth, any tax helps?

Hi. We live in Ohio, but my husband started a new job in Utah in June. We plan to move, but haven't found a house yet. So my husband got an apartment in Utah to use while he is there. He flies home about once a month for 10-12 days (he works remotely during this time). His residency is still OH (more than half of 2022). We are paying for the apartment and the travel back and forth ourselves. Is there anyway to deduct any of this expense??  Or any advice on something I may be overlooking?

If your husband receives a W-2 from his employer, then he cannot deduct the expenses for the rental from his income. You can only deduct those expenses, if you are self-employed.

For your taxes, you will have to file a resident return in OH, your resident state and file a non-resident return in Utah.
