Many people are confused by the terms Social Security and SSI---they are not the same.  Do you get Social Security benefits or do you get SSI?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS AND SSI?

For the stimulus check:

If you get Social Security  then each year you receive a SSA1099 from Social Security in late January/early February showing your Social Security and the amount you paid for Medicare.

If you receive SSI--you do not receive any sort of document to use on a tax return and do not file a tax return that reports the SSI.  Here is where to register for the stimulus check.

What about the nonfiler stimulus check tool to register here on Intuit/Turbotax? That's the one I used and received an email right away that it was accepted by the IRS. The one on the IRS page is pretty complicated and wont go through if you have zero income. Do we have to register both here AND on the IRS page or is once enough?

If you receive SSI benefits this site  IRS site Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here  has information to determine if you will need to file a 2019 federal tax return to receive the stimulus check.
