Name Change Question

I changed my legal first name at the end of 2024.

My SSN has been changed.

My W2 shows my new legal name.

My 1099s still show my old name.

My bank "thinks" it's fine as is but weren't totally sure (that's so not comforting).

Will this affect my return at all?

It will not affect your refund.

The only issue at hand is the name change, and you stated that you did change it with the Social Security Office.

  • Have you attempted to file your return.
  • The first check is that the name and Social Security number match.
  • If it went through, you are all set.
