My wife is now working for a foreign embassy. How do we file our taxes together?

My wife and I have been filing taxes together as a married couple. However, she just got a new job at a foreign embassy in the US. Per IRS, it is recommended for her to file/pay her taxes on a quarterly basis. She's going to do that. My question is, whenever I file my taxes next year, how do I file my taxes as a married couple? She would have been done with her taxes already, and she does not get any W2 forms.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Without a Form W-2, in the program, she would enter her information under Schedule C.

From the TurboTax online edition, here are the steps:

  • Sign in to your account and select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in schedule C and Enter
  • Select Jump to schedule C
  • Follow prompts

Per IRS, you must pay self-employment tax (Social Security and Medicare taxes) for your work in the United States or its territories or possessions for a foreign government or an international organization.

Exception for dual citizens: If you are a U.S. citizen and also a citizen of a country with which the United States has a bilateral social security agreement, other than Canada or Italy, your work for the government of that foreign country is always exempt from this rule.

Check with your employer if you're not sure if this applies to you.
