My state return says I owe $1,000 plus a late payment penalty, but I filed a state extension and paid $3,000 with it. Where do I enter this amount?

Go to Deductions and Credits -> I will choose what I work on -> Estimates and Other taxes paid -> select Start/Update for Other Income taxes -> Payment with YEAR federal extension. Enter amount you paid

Do you have proof of payment such as a bank or credit card statement showing the payment to the state?

Irrelevant, but yes.

Thank you!  I didn’t think to enter it on the federal questionnaire, and had just skipped through that section, as we don’t make estimated payments. But it was right where you said it would be!

@gghatore  It was a payment with a State extension, not a Federal one.

Even so, the federal questionnaire was where I needed to enter it, and it worked.
