My son is 16 and started his first job about a month or 2 ago. can i add his info in with ours or do i need to create a new account for him?

No, you can not add his information to your return.  He would need to file his own return. 

 

Since he only worked for 2 months of the year, he probably doesn't have a filing requirement, but should file if he had any federal or state tax withholding so he can get that money refunded.

 

Here are the filing requirements for a single dependent under age 65:

 

Single dependents—Were you either age 65 or older or blind?

No. You must file a return if any of the following apply.

  1. Your unearned income was more than $1,050.

  2. Your earned income was more than $12,000.

  3. Your gross income was more than the larger of—

    1. $1,050, or

    2. Your earned income (up to $11,650) plus $350.
