My Mass state return is including a payment from a non-qualified plan as both W2 wages and as a misc income, causing the income on the return to be double counted?

Federal return is calculating correctly.   How do I correct the state return?

Can you clarify what form was issued and on which lines it is appearing? MA starts with the federal income then adds and subtracts.

The income was reported on a W-2, with the amount shown in box 1 wages, and the same amount in box 11, non-qualified plan.   This is the same approach as the prior two years and there was no problem on the state return.

If you imported the W-2, you might try deleting it and manually typing it in, but seems strange that the federal return did not have trouble with it.

tried deleting and manually reentered but didn't resolve the problem.    It seems like turbo tax is taking the amount from the state income box 15 on the W-2 ( which is the same as the federal income in box 1) but then when I say that box 11 was a distribution from a non qualified plan, it adds box 11 on top of the "wages".   I'm retired so there are no other wages and it is very clear that the income is being included two times on the MA state filing.

I have the same issue.  Pension income being reported twice on Mass form (as pension and as W2).

We would like to take a deeper look at this. In order to do this, we need you to provide us with a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

 TurboTax Online:

  • Sign in to your online account. Pick up where you left off.
  • Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  • A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  • On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.
  • This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  • Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

  • Open your return.
  • Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent
  • This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  • Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

I'd like to see how your W2 was entered and transferred over to MA.

Thank you so much randolph526, I will research this further on yours and others behalf. @ljc94 if you could produce a token number too, that would be very helpful.

Has there been any resolution to this issue with the Massachusetts form?
