My last paycheck for 2019 from my university has a YTD total gross AND a fed taxable gross, the latter being significantly less. I have only received a 1042 for the fed taxable gross. Does this mean that I owe no tax on the rest of the YTD total gross?

These are university fellowships.

They did withhold tax on some but not all of my paychecks. Some of these paychecks had zero fed taxable gross, others did have some and were withheld.

However, Turbotax says I still owe money on the fed taxable gross, despite the fact that I had money withheld by the university.

Make sure you enter your withholding to offset your taxes.  Here are the steps:

In TurboTax online program,

  • Sign back into the program and select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in estimates paid and Enter
  • Select Jump to estimates paid
  • On the screen, Estimates and Other Income Taxes Paid, scroll down to select the section and enter information
