The IP PIN is not the same as the 5 digit PIN. To enter your IP PIN, sign into your TurboTax account.

  1. Open or continue to your return if you don't already have it open.
  2. In the Search bar type "IP PIN" (don't forget the space) and then select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. On the Identity Protection PIN screen, answer Yes. Select Add and enter your IP PIN in the space provided.
    • If you need to remove the IP PIN, select the trash icon.
  4. Select Continue, then select Done.

The 5-digit pin in your e-filing PIN. The 6-digit pin is your Personal Identity Number and is entered in a completely different area. In the program, search Identity Protection and take the "jump to" link to enter the 6-digit PIN.  Make sure you enter that PIN for the taxpayer it was issued to, if you are filing a joint return.
