My income seems to be over the limit for deducting college tuition or student loan interest paid. yet turbotax wants me to enter all these expenses. why?

@jkswint  you state your income 'seems' to be over the limit?  maybe it isn't? trust turbo tax.  

Note that the program is written for those not tax wise and at a third grade level thus the program asks you to enter everything just so you don't miss something important.   Now if you know for a fact your income is way over the limit for those things on both the federal and state levels   then  you can skip those entries if you wish. The IRS only requires all income to be reported however deductions and credits are always optional.
