My income is being added up incorrectly. You say $38,000 but the two income items add to about $60,000. I *wish* my refund were so high but I highly doubt it.

Federal refund too high

You have to tell us the line #s.  What line shows 38,000?  Before filing,  You can preview the 1040 or print the whole return

If it is the "refund" that is too high.

Go back and Edit each tax form you have entered.  You probably misplaced a decimal point, or double-keyed a number on one of the Federal withholding boxes.

______

IF not that, and if you paid any quarterly estimated taxes, you could have missed a decimal point in one of those entries....and you'd need to edit those to check those entries

Thanks. Looking at the return and comparing to last year's convinced me that all is well. I made way less than last year so now I'm simply have too much withholding on the money I get from an annuity.
