My husband works in Canada so doesn’t have a W2 but a T4. I converted it to US but it got rejected. What do I do?

If your husband's T4 from Canada, was converted to US$ and put on a substitute  W-2 but got rejected, you can follow these steps:

  1. Delete the Substitute W-2: Under the Income tab, click "Edit" by the W-2, then click the trash icon next to the applicable W-2 (or delete how you entered the T-4 income if not on a substitute W2)
  2. Report Foreign Income: Instead of converting the T4 to a W-2, report the income as foreign-earned income on your U.S. tax return. Use Form 2555 for Foreign Earned Income Exclusion or Form 1116 for Foreign Tax Credit
  3. Convert Currency: Ensure all amounts are converted to U.S. dollars using the IRS's yearly average exchange rates

To Report Foreign Earned income in TurboTax on form 1116 follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax
  2. Click on Did you make money outside the United States and select yes
  3. on the next screen  -  What Form(s) Was Foreign Income Reported On? Check "A statement from my foreign employer (could be cash)"
  4. Follow through and continue to answer the questions and TurboTax will complete the necessary forms.

If other information is needed, clarify how you entered the T4 income and reach back out.
