My husband's only income is social security. My gross this year is $57000. Should we file separately or jointly?

If you're married filing jointly, the first $32,000 of Social Security benefits is exempt from federal income taxes. But if you're married filing separately, there is no exemption. His entire Social Security benefit is taxable.

Thank you so much! He doesn't make much, so I guess it won't cost us much in taxes. I appreciate the advice.
