My Extension was rejected because of "R0000-902-01". I have not filed an extension yet this year. The email link "Fix my extension", does not help. What should I Do?

If you received Reject Code R0000-902-01: Taxpayer TIN In Return Header Must Not Be Same As TIN of Previous E-File, this means a return has already been filed under your social security number. If you did not file your return and do not know anyone who is entitled to file you as a dependent, you will need to notify the IRS that another return has been filed with your social security number by filing form 14039.

You will need to print, sign and mail your return and the form for processing.

Why doesn't TurboTax have a status box on this once you file?
If I started the process when I was 1st starting to file using the self employed status does it log that? I didn't finish the submittal to my knowledge and I never got an email.

An extension for filing the paperwork is automatic when filed. It is the payment that is required by April 18.

So far my experience with TurboTax has been pretty abysmal and your response that doesn't even address the question/concern is further example.

Once you have Efiled, you will get an Email, telling you you have filed.   Then another telling you whether your Efile was Accepted.

Go through the File process again (there are three parts) until you see a big orange link that says 'Transmit Returns Now'.

'Self-Employed' is not a Filing Status.  Your Filing Status is either Single, Married Filing Jointly, Head of Household, or Married Filing Separately.

If you need to file an Extension, go to 'Other Tax Situations' at the top and scroll down to 'Other Tax Forms'.

Same thing just happened to me — given the jank and bugs I find in TurboTax every year, my bet is that TT is f**king this up somehow..

Edit: To be explicit, I filed for an extension with TT since I'm missing a form for 2023 taxes, and got back this error: "R0000-902-01 - Taxpayer TIN in the Return Header must not be the same as a TIN of a previously accepted electronic return for the return type and tax period indicated in the tax return." — I wonder if TT is doubling filing extensions or something..

I am encountering a similar issue. Do you know the process to fix it?

It indicates that an extension (but not a return) was already recorded on your behalf.
