My employer state ID number contains 27 numbers and characters and will not fit in the box I need to type it in. What do I do if all characters do not fit?

probably an error in prep since I know of no state that uses a 27 character ID

use the first 9 numbers or Federal EIN.

If the employer state ID number will not fit, you can leave that box blank, use the federal EIN from box b of your Form W2, or use as many characters of the ID number that fits.  Rest assured, the employer's state ID number is not used on your tax returns.
