My employer is adjusting my W2, as the initial one I received was incorrect. How do I go about this if I don't have an updated W2 before April 15th?

You may file for an extension. Here is how to file.

  1. Sign in to TurboTax.
  2. Select File an extension in the menu or go to extension.
    • You can also select Tax Tools then Tools from the menu and choose File an extension.
  3. Follow the instructions to e-file your extension. Note: You can't file an extension after April 15, 2025.

If you are on a mobile App.

  1. Sign in and open or continue your return.
  2. Go to extension or select More from the home screen and choose File an extension.
  3. Follow the instructions to e-file your extension.

Hi! Thank you so much for this information. I was confused because the IRS website says "Make sure you pay any tax you owe by the April filing date. The extension is only for filing your return." and I'm not sure what taxes I'll owe because my W2 is incorrect. Is there any way to still file for an extension?

Yes, you can file for an extension before April 15.
