My e-return keeps getting rejected because my birthday is wrong. If I know the birth date the IRS has on file, will I be able to mail in my return?

I know the birthdate the IRS has on file is in August, and I've been trying to change it to my correct one in April for a year but because of COVID the offices in my state are still closed. If I put the August birth date the IRS has on file, will this become an issue when I change to the April birthdate on my SSN once the offices are open?

Also would I be able to e-file with the correct birthdate, or will I have to mail in my return?

If you have the Social Security Administration correct the date, it will probably be several months before the IRS gets the change and updates it e-file database.     You will probably need to mail file this year.

That's a good point. When mailing my return, then I would have to put the incorrect August birth date instead of the April birth date?

Your tax return should be accurate with the DOB that is on your birth certificate.

unless you are crossing some age threshold that changes your credits, deductions  or other taxes,

e-File using the birthday you know will be ACCEPTED.

You don't want to file a paper return.

Your e-Filed return should be ACCEPTED within 12 hours, two days at the latest.
