My daughter is 16--she made $636 last year with no federal taxes withheld, does she need to file a return?

If you claim your daughter as your dependent, , and that's her only income, she'll only need to file her own return if the income was self-employment-type income.

Please see the TurboTax FAQ "Do I need to file my own taxes if I'm a dependent?" for additional information.
