If your daughter is unable to manage her own tax affairs due to her medical condition, you can file her taxes for her. Here's a quick summary:

Filing on Her Behalf:

  • You can file your daughter's taxes if she is unable to do so due to her medical condition.
  • You will need to use IRS Form 2848 to authorize yourself to act on her behalf for tax matters
  • For New York State taxes, you can use Form POA-1 - if applicable
  • Court Order: If you are her legal guardian, you may need to provide evidence of your authority, such as a court order

TurboTax lets you e-File five tax returns.

Is that feature for persons who have Power of Attorney for four individuals. ?

When your tax return is e-Filed, it is presumed to be signed by taxpayer.

You can also enter your own name on Form 1040 as person authorized to discuss the tax return with IRS.
