My child was born alive but passed away the same day, so no SSN but I should be able to claim him. It automatically set my child as other dependent only $500 credit. How can I fix this?

I am so very sorry for your loss.

To claim your child as a dependent for the Child Tax Credit, you will need to attach proof of the live birth (birth certificate). When asked the number of months the child resided with you, you will mark "12".

Click here for the official guidance from the IRS on this process.

You will need to print and paper-file the return.

Thank you Gisele!

I think I may need to wait and amend my return, I got all the way through the process and don't think I can undo.

I have to file by mail, and regardless I'll add the birth and death certificate, but I don't think it'll matter.
