Move for a job

Hello, I moved to Florida for job transfer back in 1st feb/2022. But my wife and kids remain in NY. I support my wife and kids expenses. I file my taxes as married filing jointly. Do I owe taxes to my earned wages from Florida. Please advise. Thank you.

Hi johal, thanks for attending the event and post questions.

Understand you have been physical in Florida since 2/1/2022 but wife and children stay in New York.

I include the "Frequently Asked Questions about Filing Requirements, Residency, and Telecommuting for New York State Personal Income Tax" for you to decide if you need to report your FL income to NY state tax return. It all depends on intention and circumstances: Domicile vs. residence.

https://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/file/nonresident-faqs.htm#income

Depending if your wife has income in NY, below TurboTax article explains.

Hope the above helps. Thank you again.
