Mom claimed me on accident. Owes the IRS now. And i cannot Get my refund until she pays?

My mom claimed me as a dependent. And when i filed I also claimed my daughter. My mom says she owes the IRS now. She hasn’t paid it, and because if that i cannot receive my refund. What should i do?

How old were you at the end of 2016?  Were you a full-time student?  Did you earn more than $4050 in 2016?  Did you and your child live with your Mom?  When you filed your return was it rejected because Mom filed first claiming you?

IRS will not hold up your refund waiting for your mom to pay. It doesn't work that way. What should you do? File an amended return with the correct number of exemptions listed if your original return did not show that.

Interesting. Okay, so I received half of what I was supposed to get a week go. I still don’t know why I haven’t received the remainder amount. I beleive It was amended though, last time I talked to accountant.

Amended returns can only be mailed.  It is suggested that it be mailed certified with return receipt (or other tracking service) to verify that the IRS receives it.

Amended returns can take up to 16 weeks (4 months) to process.

You can check the status of the amended return here, but allow 3 weeks after mailing.
