Married Filing joint with separate residence

I married in 2019. We currently maintain separate state residence (MD & PA) . I plan to file "married joint" for federal, and married separate (1 resident, 1 non-resident) for both states. The program is requiring a move date for myself which did not occur. Can I override this? Or do I adjust when completing the state returns?

Yes, you would file a joint federal return and each of you would have to file a resident return for for the state you live in and a nonresident/part-year resident for the other state.  This can become quite burdensome.  Generally, it is best to file jointly however in your situation it may be best if you file married separately.  This TurboTax article was written to help couples decide the best way to file. Should You and Your Spouse File Taxes Jointly or Separately?
