Mailing address to mail the federal tax return?

As my spouse do not have SSN/ITIN, I have to file the tax by mail. (1) Can I leave the SSN box empty for my spouse? (2) What are the documents that I need to mail? (3) Please let me know the mailing address for feredal tax return

1. You can write "APPLIED FOR" in the social security box on the paper form.

2. You must mail documentation that substantiates foreign/alien status and true identity for each individual.  You can also get these documents verified by an acceptance agent if you can go to a location so that you do not have to mail the documents .  For a list of acceptable documents or acceptance agent information, see Publication 1915, Understanding Your Individual Taxpayer Identification Number.

3. Mail Form W-7/W-7(SP), proof of identity documents and your income tax return to:

Internal Revenue Service ITIN Operations

P.O. Box 149342

Austin, TX 78714-9342

If you are using a private delivery service and need to provide a street address, send your Form W-7 package to:

Internal Revenue Service ITIN Operations

Mail Stop 6090-AUSC

3651 S. Interregional, Hwy 35

Austin, TX 78741-0000
