I made tax credit donations for 2019 in April of 2020 before the file date cutoff. I claimed those on my 2019 taxes. Do I enter these in the "Charitable Carryovers" section of the forms in the 2019 box?
And, do I put my 2020 donations in the "Review All Your Charities" section even though I made the payments in 2021 before the filing cutoff?
No, you should not enter anything to the Charitable Contribution Carryover.
I think you may have misunderstood the charitable contribution guidelines. The year of the Charitable Donation contributions are deductible in the year that you made the donation.
For example, if you made a donation on Dec. 31, 2019, that donation is deductible on your 2019 income tax return. If the donation were made on Jan. 1, 2020, you would need to wait until you file your 2020 taxes to claim the deduction.
In AZ you can make state tax credit donations up until filing date for the previous year. I am unsure how to record this. So I made location tax credit donations for state taxes in early 2020 and I filed it in the 2019 state taxes. Do I record these in my federal tax documents anywhere for my 2020 taxes to get the $300 credit?
On your 2019 return, did you make sure:
1. that these contributions were not listed as charitable contributions on your 2019 AZ return (any contribution taken as a credit cannot also be a deduction)?
2. that these credit were taken on your 2019 AZ return?
If you did both of these things on your 2019 return, then you are done. There is nothing to report on your 2020 return.
