This issue only seems to be on some Mac's running OS 10.11.6. Many other Mac user on that OS do not have any problems at all. That is making this problem difficult to trouble shoot since it is hard to reproduce. There is some speculation that it only affects Macs of a certain hardware vintage.
There are no known problems with TurboTax on either 10.12 or 10.13. I run OS 10.12.6 because there are other known comparability issues with some 3rd party software (other than TurboTax) and OS 10.13. I usually wait for at least 6 months or longer before updating to the latest Apple OS until they work all the bugs out. (I do have 10.13.2 on an external hard drive just for testing purposes).
I believe that you can still get Sierra 10.12 from the app store.

I found the answer ! I went out and bought HR Block 2017 CD. HRBlock website states that it will run with even older versions of OSx. So I hope and pray HRBlock will install on my mac without a problem !!! (I will return original CD back to Costco since it's never been opened. I just read about all the problems with it and decided to skip Turbotax this year. Sorry Turbotax ! BLESSINGS !
Plus, this is the last day the HR Block CD is on sale at retails stores.
This is the system log error I'm seeing with Turbo Tax Premier while it's install this file:

i used the same el capitan 10.11.6 installer that was on the internal drive to install onto a new external usb drive and booted off that and now TurboTax 2017 works for me.

@phil.wenya - That is very interesting. Seems to indicate that it is not hardware related since you are using the same hardware. There must be something installed on your internal HD that is not on the external HD that is causing the issue???
I had problem installing TT17Premier on my macos 10.11.6 as TT checked, found, and tried to install an update, then exited. This got resolved after I did two things: 1) rebooted my mac, 2) signed in using my primary admin account on the Mac then did the TT install from there. My other account had admin role, but was not the primary admin account on the mac. Seemed to be the root cause of the issue I faced. Previously, TT just exited mid-install, now TT can go to the next step which is a dialog box to enter the admin password for an app installation. Probably an unhandled permission issue in the code.

That's fine if you're using a computer that runs Sierra. I'm not, so upgrading isn't an option.
I am in the same boat. Late 2007 iMac that cannot upgrade to either Sierra or High Sierra.
Then you can use the TurboTax online editions - <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/">https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/</a>
@bauer.jr If you are running OS 10.11.6 and have this problem, it should be fixed soon.

TurboTax Premier 2017 does not work on my MacBook (running macOS Sierra 10.12.6). When I try to import 1099-DIV from my brokerage, I can see my brokerage is in the list but it does not allow me to choose it. It does not have any response after I click on my brokerage from the list. Does any one have this issue?
