I made $400 at a job and I received no W-2 or 1099 because I didn't meet their $600 threshold to generate a form. How do I enter this? If I go to other income and report the wages, TurboTax will not let me proceed without entering a reason code A, C, G, or H but none of them apply. There is an option for [no entry] but TurboTax will not let me select that and continue.
This is considered self employment income. You must file a federal return if:
If you want to claim the income with no expenses you can enter it as other income since it will not require self employment tax at $400. It it's higher than that, you may want to file Schedule C to take the expenses. How do I report income from self employment?
Other Miscellaneous Income:
Thank you. Once I do that, I'm still being told I can't file taxes unless I file a Form 8919-T. It won't let me go to submit because I haven't filled out the form. But none of the options apply. I worked for a company and made less than $600 so they didn't issue me a W-2, but that doesn't fit option A, C, G or H, which is what I'm told to select. Any other advice?
"I'm still being told I can't file taxes unless I file a Form 8919-T." - Who told you that? TurboTax?
If you file using TurboTax and Schedule C, then TurboTax will add a Schedule SE, which is the Social Security and Medicare taxes that the 8919 is worried about.
So let's pretend that you are a contractor (true enough), and go through TurboTax saying that you have a "business". and tell me what stops you.
