Just realized I can refer to a valid dependent as "other." Will there be a problem if I change it from a relative status to other? Both ways it's still a valid dependent.

I used a tax service when I first claimed the dependent and the second year the same until she ripped me off. I then started filing my taxes myself. She never told me that "other" was an option, otherwise I would have used it back then until now. I would really like to changed this, but I'm terrified in doing so, may cause me problems. Being laid off at this time, money is tight and I don't need any other issues over my head at this time. I hope someone can help me with this right now. I'm in the mist of filing my taxes as we speak.

If your dependent is not a blood relative, then you should change them to other.  This is important and does matter because you cannot claim head of household if the person is just other.  You can only claim the $500 non refundable other dependent credit.
