Is there a way to opt out of receiving a credit? I don't want to have to spend $39 just to get a $5 credit.

Wish you would have included some details.... but best guess.....are you referring to the retirement saver credit?  Tell the software you are a student....Students cannot get that credit.  Then you can stay in the Free Edition.
