Is it mandatory to file if my parent has already claimed me? I had multiple jobs and received educational financial aid but she still provided most support.

If you are a dependent on your parents tax return and your gross income from wages reported on W-2's was less than $12,550 in 2021 you are not required to file a tax return.

If you had income from self-employment of $400 or more then you are required to file a tax return to report the self-employment income.  You would indicate on your tax return that you are a dependent.

If you had federal and state tax withheld from your paychecks you might want to file a tax return to get a refund.  Do your W-2's have amounts in box 2 or box 17?

CAN I FILE A RETURN IF I AM A DEPENDENT?

If you can be claimed as a dependent on your parents’ return, you can still file your own return so that you can receive a refund of taxes withheld.  (You will not get back anything for Social Security or Medicare withheld.) Be sure that on your own return you say that you can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.

State filing requirements may differ.
