Currently, the IRS shows the Credit for Energy Efficient Vehicle Charging Stations to be expired as of December 31, 2017. You should, however, check with your state (if you have not already) to see if they are offering any credits related to your installation.
If Congress should pass a retroactive extension of this credit, you can amend your return at a later date.

Kitty:
in the most recent budget, Congress extended the Credit, and made that extension retroactive. Is T-Tax working on an update to the 2018 tax year so we can amend our 2018 return to claim the credit?
Turbo Tax works to incorporate forms into the program as quickly as possible once the IRS releases the final form. I have seen turn-arounds range from a few hours up to a couple of days.
There should not be any problem with amending last year's program to answer @BigDog
As for this year, I checked the IRS draft room to check on progress. It lists Form 8911 as still in rough draft form as of now. If you just do a search on the 8911, it will also take you to legislative extenders and any final drafts. The final draft at this time still shows reserved. It was extended later in the season last year but is expected to be extended again.
Does anyone know when form 8911 will be functional to enable a 2018 tax return to be amended?
When I try to amend my 2018 return to get my tax credit, TT will allow me to add the form and name it, but it fails to ask any questions whose answers will generate a completed form 8911.
I've spent 2 hours on the phone with TT support folks, but they were unable to help or tell me whether a fix was even pending. I'm stunned and very irritated that TT has no info available on this situation and its resolution!
We have not yet made updates to the 2018 amendment software for the retroactive tax extenders. Once we have finalized all of the changes to the 2019 software, we will work on updating the 2018 amendment software for the tax extenders.
At this time, I do not have an estimated date for release.
Why doesn't TT make this info more easily accessible to customers and staff? I wasted 2 hours of my life trying to find out what was going on...
