IRS Form 4684 Casualties and Thefts for 2024 is available on the IRS website, but my TurboTax says it won't be available for efile until 2/20/24... why is it late?

I have downloaded the IRS Form and may just end up filing by mail.

Thank you for your valued feedback.  We are working on getting the forms available for e-file as soon as possible.

Use this tool to check availability of forms, including the 4684: Tax form availability

If the form is available for download from IRS site to file by mail, why is it not available through Intuit Turbotax to file ELECTRONICALLY??

It will be available to e-file as soon as we finish finalizing the form; there were changes which require programming updates.    @shannonandshelby

When I originally completed my TurboTax Federal 1040 Individual Form, the message from TurboTax indicated Form 4684, P1, Causualities & Theft would be availaible to File on 02/20/2025.  Now TurboTax message idicates it has changed to 02/27/2025.  Why the additional delay?  My expectation is TurboTax should have all necessary forms available to Customers when the IRS allows Tax Returns to be Filed.  I find this a critical error with TurboTaxes Services.  What is being done to rectify this situation?   With all the Choas going on with the New Governement Administration, I fear this delay will severely impact my Federal Refund.  What is TurboTax doing to improve the availability of this form to allow me to E-File my Tax Return.

If it has been delayed that would be incredibly unfortunate, and will weigh into my decision of if I ever want to use TurboTax again in the future.   😡😡😡 I should have had my refund by now.

Keeps getting delayed now saying 2-27-25.  sick of waiting and even after paying I can't print my return so I can mail it in.  If not ready by the 27th, I will download my forms from IRS and mail it in.  We had back to back Disasters and need our return ASAP!

After the IRS makes the form available, it goes to TurboTax programmers so it can be put into the program.  That involves programming and testing to be sure everything is working properly before it is released for use.  Sometimes problems occur with programming and it takes longer than was originally anticipated.

When did the IRS update form 4684?  I cannot find an updated form on the IRS website.

It's been available at least 3 weeks. I downloaded the fillable pdf version and it's ready to go if I wanted to file by mail...  it's obvious to me that TurboTax didn't add sufficient resources to have that form ready, and now folks who went through natural disaster are on hold getting their refunds...

Probably my last time using TurboTax...😡

I'm very disappointed in Turbo Tax for not having the forms ready. I have been using Turbo Tax since they started many years ago, which is unacceptable. People need their money, and the forms are prepared at the IRS, but Turbo Tax drags its feet and does not care about its customers.

That is BS and unacceptable. Somebody needs to lose their job.

While I can appreciate TurboTax needing to get the Programing done correctly, Form 4684 is not a new IRS form.  I has been in used since 1970.  I would like to believe TurboTax should be able to accommodate any updates in a reasonalble timeframe.  The TurboTax Web site claims, "It takes some time to incorporate IRS forms into TurboTax. While they may be available from the IRS on a given date, we need a few days to make the forms available for use in TurboTax."

I did not find your response helpful at all.  It was more of an lame excuse than a detailed Plan for incorporating this form.  Yes I did sign up for a email notification when this 4684 Form will be available for E-filing.

As you can see by other Users comments there is a lot of frustration among TurboTax Users on this subject matter.  Many people have been affected by Natural Disaters and are in need of their Tax Refunds to rebuild their lives.

Your response make me leary of paying the additional $60.00 for Live Tax Advice.

It was originally scheduled to be released on 2/20.  Then 2/27.  Still not available today.

When will it be available. I suffered a major lose due to Hurricane Milton and need my refund.

The date for California Form 4684 has now been moved from 2/27 to 3/6/3025!

Where do you see the date form 4684 will be available. I tried to file 3-1 and still nothing but people are saying 2-27.  I would like to file mine asap like everyone else.  For Iowa. Thank you

I was finally able to get mine e-filed on the 28th, but this entire experience was a debacle...  that for was available well over a month ago, but Intuit obviously didn't put sufficient resources behind getting that form completed. I could have mailed in my return a long time ago using the fillable PDF file from the IRS website but decided to wait since I already spent my money on TurboTax...

They have lost a customer of over 15 years because I will look for another alternative. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I am with you.  I'm waiting for updates from the state of Iowa, so it says.  In the mean time I have already paid for the tax service and I can't file anything until this issue is resolved.

If you are only waiting on the Iowa form, you can file your federal return now.   Then file your Iowa return, once the Iowa Dept of Revenue finalizes the IA casualty deduction/credit form for 2024.   @DB138

My Federal return  is being held up because I have a 1099R that I am using the  QUALIFIED DISASTER DISTRIBUTION credit.  The program asked me all of these questions about when the federal disaster occurred, Hurricane Helen 2024, but they still have an issue keeping me from submitting my return.

Then I get to my state taxes and get another issue. The forms for Georgia haven't been updated "DUE TO FEDERAL LEGISLATION RECENTLY PASSED, THE ALLOWABLE CASUALTY LOSS ON FEDERAL FORM 4684 HAS CHANGED".

I started my return on 02/12/25. Live support has not been much help. All they can really tell me is to keep checking back. I am really disgusted with TurboTax!

The tool says all of the forms I need for Georgia are available, but doe not give me an option for the problem with federal 4684 that is holding up both federal and state.
