Are you referring to the 6-digit IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) provided by the IRS to certain victims of ID theft?
You wrote: "when i enter the IP PIN, it does not show at the time of verification."
Does not show "where?" And what do you mean by "the time of verification?"
Are you filing by mail or efile? For security reasons, the IP PIN will not print on a printed copy of the return. If filing by mail, you will need to write the IP PIN in manually in the designated area in the signature section on the mailed paper copy.
If efiling, the IP PIN data gets sent in the electronic file to the IRS.
And are you entering the IP PIN in the correct location in the interview? Here's how to navigate to enter the IP PIN into TurboTax:
Log in and open your return ("Take me to my return.")
Once the return is open click in the top right corner on SEARCH.
Enter IP PIN without quotes.
Choose Jump to IP PIN.
Next screen asks: "Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes?"
Or here's an alternate navigation:
Log in and open your return ("Take me to my return.")
Federal Taxes tab.
Subtab "Other Tax Situations}
Scroll down to "Other Return Info."
Choose "Identity Protection PIN" and Start (or Revisit.)
Next screen asks: "Did you or any of your dependents get an IP PIN from the IRS for this year's taxes?"
hi yes, its e-file and i did follow the process that you shared and still does not show. before you send the e-file return it gives you the option to review and print the return. when i download the pdf to review the pin does not appear. is there a way i can enter it?
As I mentioned above, that for security reasons, the IP PIN does not print on a copy of the return. So it will not display in the PDF or a print out.
How are you planning to file? If you are efiling the return, the IP PIN data will be sent in your electronic transmission.
If you are going to file by mail, however, then you will need to write it on the form in the correct place in the signature section.
NOTE: The answer below was from 2 years ago and is no longer the case. It was for tax years prior to 2018.
