A two part question. My wife has an inherited IRA. We realized we missed the RMD for 2021 after filing the return. Once the mistake was realized I took an RMD in late April sent a 5329 form to the IRS and received a response back from them in July 2022 stating that I should file an Amended 2021 form 1040-X. Long story short but I have not done that yet. I also took an RMD for 2022 in November.
Fast forward to this year I am completing my 2022 return using TT deluxe CD product and I get to the 1099-R form and see that it has combined both RMD's I took into one lump sum.
1st question: How do I complete my 2022 Inheirted RMD section of Turbo Tax given that I have a 1099-R form with a 2021 and 2022 RMD's combined on it?
2nd Question: How do i complete the amended return 1040-X? what sections do I specifically need to complete? It has section of income and decuctions, tax liability, payments etc.. And how do I do that on TT 2021 software?
I would prefer to get 2022 return filed on time and then get the 2021 return completed. Just wondering how to navigate at this point. I am open to paying for Live Turbo Tax support but it seems like that is only open to those that complete return online.
